Chunky Monkey Smoothie Bowls (Print version)

Thick chocolate-peanut butter banana smoothie bowl topped with granola, fresh fruit, and seeds.

# What you’ll need:

→ Smoothie Base

01 - 2 medium bananas, peeled, sliced, and frozen
02 - 1/4 cup peanut butter powder or 2 tablespoons peanut butter
03 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
04 - 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
05 - 2 to 3 tablespoons coconut water

→ Toppings

06 - 1 medium banana, peeled and sliced
07 - 1/2 cup maple cinnamon granola, gluten-free if needed
08 - 2 teaspoons cacao nibs
09 - 2 teaspoons hemp seeds
10 - 2 teaspoons mini chocolate chips, dairy-free optional

# Steps:

01 - Add frozen banana slices, peanut butter powder or peanut butter, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and coconut water to a high-powered blender or food processor.
02 - Blend on low speed, gradually increasing to medium-high, using the tamper to keep the mixture moving. If using a food processor, pulse and scrape down the sides as needed until the mixture reaches a smooth, creamy consistency.
03 - Divide the blended smoothie base evenly between two serving bowls.
04 - Layer each bowl with sliced fresh banana, maple cinnamon granola, cacao nibs, hemp seeds, and mini chocolate chips if desired.
05 - Present the smoothie bowls right away while the blended base maintains its ideal consistency and temperature.

# Cooking tips:

01 -
  • It perfectly captures the classic Chunky Monkey flavor combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
  • The frozen banana base creates a thick, creamy texture that feels like eating dessert for breakfast.
  • It is quick to make, requiring only 10 minutes of preparation time.
02 -
  • For extra creaminess, add a splash of almond milk to the smoothie base.
  • Try using a frozen banana for the topping to keep the bowl cold for longer.
  • Check all ingredient labels if you need to ensure the dish is strictly gluten-free or dairy-free.
